Bobst Graphic, 1972–1981 (English)

The second volume of the series “Visual Archives” is devoted to the unknown history of the pioneering society of the phototypesetting of Bobst Graphic.

At the beginning of the 1970s, the Bobst SA packaging company decided to diversify production, introducing electronics and IT to its operations. Within a short period of time, major resources were developed and a range of word processors and phototypesetting machines created with the help of a number of top-level scientists, including Jean-Daniel Nicoud, René Alphonse Higonnet and Louis Moyroud (the inventor of phototypesetting). Very soon after Bobst Graphic was set up, Bobst SA decided to participate in the development of new typefaces with renowned typographers such as Team’77–among other reasons, in order to create a symbiosis between the typographic form and the latest technologies.

Forty years later. This book uses archive documents and witness interviews to reveal the history of the Bobst Graphic division and the many fascinating results of their research.
